Privacy Policy

Coffeester is a static-rendered content site with no user accounts. We collect very little, and what we do collect is described plainly below.
What we collect
- Server logs. Standard request logs (IP address, user-agent, timestamp) are retained by our host, Vercel, for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention. We don't use them for analytics.
- No accounts. We have no login.
- Email newsletter (only if you sign up). Your email address, the date you signed up and confirmed, and which page you signed up from — see Weekly email below.
- Roaster submissions (only if you send one). If you use Add your roastery, we store the roastery name, website and the email you give us, to process the listing and contact you about it if needed.
- No tracking pixels beyond what's described under Embedded content below.
Analytics
We currently run no third-party analytics. If we add analytics in the future, we'll prefer privacy-respecting, cookie-free options (such as Plausible or Fathom) that don't track you across sites.
Affiliate links
When you click a product link and make a purchase, the destination retailer — Amazon, Fellow, Baratza, individual roasters, and others — may set tracking cookies under their own domain. Those cookies are governed by that retailer's privacy policy, not ours. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. We're paid the same regardless of which pick you choose.
Weekly email
Our weekly "New This Week" email is strictly opt-in:
- Double opt-in. After you enter your address we send one confirmation email; you're only subscribed once you click the link in it. Unconfirmed addresses receive nothing further.
- What we store: your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and which page you signed up from. We don't buy, sell, rent or share lists.
- Who processes it: subscriptions and sending are handled by our email provider, Kit (kit.com, Kit Inc., United States), under its own privacy and data-processing terms. Kit records delivery data such as opens and clicks so we can see what's useful; we don't combine it with anything else.
- What you'll get: one email a week (new coffees, restocks, price drops), only when there's something new. Every email identifies us as the sender, includes our mailing address, and has a one-click unsubscribe link — unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
- Deleting your data: unsubscribe from any email, or email us and we'll delete your address from the list entirely.
- Laws we follow: Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and PIPEDA, the US CAN-SPAM Act, and the GDPR / UK GDPR (consent is the legal basis; you can withdraw it at any time).
Embedded content (YouTube)
We embed YouTube videos using youtube-nocookie.com, which prevents YouTube from setting tracking cookies until you actually press play. If you play a video, YouTube and Google may set cookies under their own policies.
If you email us, we store that conversation in our email system for as long as needed to respond and handle any follow-ups. We never add you to a mailing list without your explicit, confirmed consent (see Weekly email above).
Cookies
The site itself does not set tracking cookies. Vercel may set a minimal session or security cookie for deployment routing.
Your rights
- GDPR (EU/UK): you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Email us and we'll act on it.
- CCPA (California): the same rights, plus the right to opt out of the sale of personal information — which is moot here, because we don't sell any.
- PIPEDA (Canada): you can access and correct the personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent; email us.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes
We'll update the "Last updated" date when this policy changes. Material changes will be noted briefly on the homepage.
