Basha
Roasted by Dayglow
Basha Bekele works with around 150 farmers to export coffee directly from his processing sites in the Bensa area.

From the roaster
Basha Bekele runs four small coffee processing sites in the area around Bensa, close to several of the other producers we work with. This lot is from Basha’s original site near the well-known village of Bombe, where some of his partner farmers work at over 2300 masl. Basha also operates collection points in Shantawene and Kokose, and added a new site in Badigalo this year, at even higher altitude. This means that Basha now works with around 150 other farmers, and exports their coffee directly to roasters like us. Basha’s family have been in coffee for many years; his father is well respected in Bombe, having previously managed the local co-op here.

Context
Sourced from the Bensa region of Ethiopia, the Basha lot is produced by Basha Bekele. This coffee is grown at an elevation of 2300 masl, a characteristic that often contributes to the dense, complex bean structure frequently associated with high-altitude cultivation in this origin. As a roaster, Dayglow highlights the specific terroir of Bensa, a region celebrated for its distinct contributions to the broader Ethiopian coffee profile.
When evaluating the nuances of such a specific lot, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the intricate aromatic compounds present in the cup. While Ethiopian coffees are widely recognized for their diverse processing methods and vibrant acidity, the specific character of this Basha release reflects the unique conditions managed by Basha Bekele. Understanding these regional and producer-specific details provides a clearer picture of how geography and careful cultivation shape the final experience in the cup.
