Afterglow decaf is a crown jewel in the Heirloom Lineup. The entire roasting process has been re-written for this coffee.
After numerous attempts and a whole lot of trial and error we finally found the right roasting technique to deliver a competition quality cup of decaf coffee.
The beans are Fair trade, organic, regeneratively farmed and ultra-premium Indonesian beans decaffeinated using a slow-water decaffeination process. We roast this coffee by utilizing culinary techniques to bring forward a nutty caramel flavor in an otherwise subtle coffee while preserving and amplifying its natural cocoa finish.

Context
The Afterglow Decaf, sourced from Indonesia by Heirloom Coffee Roasters, offers a distinct profile defined by its slow-water decaffeination process. While many decaffeination techniques focus on removing caffeine while preserving the bean's structural integrity, the slow-water method is often favored for its ability to maintain the inherent characteristics of the origin. Generally, coffees from this region are known for their deep, earthy foundations, which pair well with the classic notes of caramel, roasted nuts, and cocoa found in this specific lot.
When evaluating these flavors, it is helpful to consult a flavor wheel to better identify the nuances between nutty and chocolatey descriptors. Understanding the processing methods behind your cup provides essential context for how the bean’s final character is shaped before it reaches the roaster. This selection serves as a reliable example of how careful decaffeination can highlight traditional, comforting flavor profiles.
