Catuaí

Coffea arabica var. catuai

Sweet, balanced, mild acidity.

Catuaí is a compact, high-yielding cross of Mundo Novo and Caturra bred by Brazil's IAC beginning in 1949 and released for cultivation in the 1970s. It combines Caturra's dwarf habit with Mundo Novo's vigour, comes in red- and yellow-cherry forms, and resists wind and rain well thanks to cherries that cling firmly to the branch. Widely planted across Brazil and Central America, it is a dependable commercial and specialty variety.
