From the roaster

Born and raised among coffee plantations, Max Pérez understood both the risks and potential of the coffee industry long before starting a farm. Driven to “make their coffee dreams come true,” he and his wife, Claudia, founded Finca La Hermosa in 2010. Situated on the slopes of the Acatenango volcano, the coffee farm benefits from fertile soils that nurture a diverse range of coffee varieties. This lot is a separation of their Pink Bourbon, exhibiting bright red plum flavors balanced by milk chocolate sweetness.

Context

Produced by Max Pérez and Claudia in the Acatenango region, this Finca La Hermosa lot showcases the distinct characteristics of the Pink Bourbon varietal. While Bourbon-derived cultivars are often celebrated for their balanced sweetness and complex acidity, this specific offering from Counter Culture Coffee highlights a profile defined by bright red plum and milk chocolate.

When evaluating such coffees, enthusiasts often reference the flavor wheel to better articulate the interplay between fruit-forward acidity and foundational cocoa notes. Because Pink Bourbon is a hybrid variety, it frequently bridges the gap between the classic, sugary profile of traditional Bourbon and the more vibrant, nuanced acidity found in other high-quality lineages. This selection serves as a compelling example of how careful cultivation in the volcanic soils of Acatenango can yield a refined cup that remains both approachable and deeply expressive of its specific origin.
