From the roaster

Since 2015, we’ve purchased coffee from producers nestled deep in the mountains of Nariño, Colombia. The area has a history of heavy guerrilla activity that, for decades, isolated the community and discouraged collective business efforts. Against all odds, the producers of K’uychi have worked together to improve their farms, conserve their community’s natural resources, and bring us this wonderful coffee. We taste notes of green grape, clementine, and milk chocolate.

Context

Sourced from the high-altitude landscapes of Colombia · Nariño, the K’uychi selection represents a distinct offering from Counter Culture Coffee. This coffee presents a profile defined by the roaster as green grape, clementine, and milk chocolate. While individual lots from this region often reflect the unique microclimates of the Andes, the specific sensory experience of any cup can be better understood by referencing the flavor wheel to identify the nuances of these fruit and cocoa characteristics.

Coffees from Nariño are frequently noted for their bright acidity and complex sweetness, which often bridge the gap between vibrant citrus notes and deeper, comforting base tones. By focusing on the interplay between the crisp acidity of the grape and clementine notes against the grounding influence of milk chocolate, this coffee invites a thoughtful exploration of how regional terroir influences the final cup.
