Las Brumas Anaerobic Washed Pacamara is produced by our longtime friend Ernesto Menéndez. This year, we decided to release both the natural and the washed process variants at the same time, as well as a honey SL28 and a Gesha to give you a special opportunity to try lots of great coffees from one farm side by side.
At the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, Las Brumas is totally different from any other coffee farm we've ever seen. At Las Brumas, Ernesto is doing a Wild Forest Coffee. Imagine how coffee was (and is to a tiny extent) grown in the wild, in Ethiopia and in Yemen. This is what has inspired Ernesto Menendez to plant coffee plants in the natural forest in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Mountain Range in Santa Ana, El Salvador. The coffee plants are spread out in the wild and are treated as a part of nature. The coffee is growing very slowly, and the crop is fairly small, but not surprisingly, it has a depth of flavours, and the coffee comes out very complex.
Located in the forest of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, Las Brumas is totally different from any other coffee farm we've ever seen. The coffee trees at Las Brumas are spread out in the forest to be built up as wild grown as possible, without interfering with nature.
We've began working with Ernesto in 2015, and have been buying the coffee from his farms Las Brumas and Los Andes ever since. It was a relationship that started purely based on geekiness in how to create a really high-end cup of coffee. Ernesto is a great producer who constantly cups and improves his methods of growing and processing, something that makes working together really fun, and he has a theory behind every decision in how this coffee was produced.
Ernesto has won the Cup of Excellence several times, and the coffee from Las Brumas has also previously won the World Barista Championship.

Context
Ernesto Menéndez's Las Brumas grows across the volcanic slopes of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec range in El Salvador's Santa Ana region, where elevations between 1460–2000 masl support complex fruit development. This washed Pacamara showcases the varietal's characteristic balance between body and clarity. The washed processing method highlights the coffee's intrinsic stone-fruit and spice character—apricot and plum notes emerge alongside warming cinnamon, with orange and cider undertones. This offering from Drop Coffee reflects both terroir and varietal expression, making it a compelling choice for those seeking Central American coffees with structured acidity and layered flavor development.
