The story of Finca Rustica is the kind we love to tell.

Ruben is a super motivated producer in San Ignacio among some of our longer standing partnerships.

His farm is incredibly steep and is situated a bit lower in altitude than some of his more established and successful neighbors like Pablo Yana and Porfilio Mamani from whom we’ve sourced stellar coffees for a decade. There is a real challenge here but Ruben keeps showing up with his giant smile and a small t-shirt.

First the coffees were just on the bubble of being acceptable for our quality standards. After faithfully following the advice of our agronomist friends each season there was a marked improvement.

The coffee made its way into our blends and now stands alone all grown up and ready to make new friends!

Context

Produced by Ruben Caceras in the San Ignacio region of Caranavi, this Bolivia Finca Rustica Pacamara represents a distinct offering from Saint Frank Coffee. The coffee is grown at an elevation of 1300–1400 masl and undergoes a washed process, a method often utilized to highlight the inherent clarity and acidity of the bean. The Pacamara varietal is widely recognized for its large bean size and complex, often bold flavor profiles. In this specific lot, the cup profile presents a balance of fruit-forward notes like sweet plum and black raspberry, rounded out by the deeper, confectionary sweetness of nougat, milk chocolate, and cacao nib. When evaluating these characteristics, one might reference a flavor wheel to better categorize the interplay between the bright berry tones and the rich, cocoa-based finish. This selection showcases the unique terroir of the Bolivian highlands through the careful cultivation of a highly regarded, specialized varietal.
