From the roaster

Another coffee sourced from the Vides family, sourced from the Cuevitas farm, one of the six the family runs. The quality found on these farms is what keeps us coming back year after year.

All six farms are Rainforest Alliance certified and follow Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E) Practices. Additionally, in 2012 Coffee Care, a non-profit organisation reading social awareness projects in coffee growing regions in Guatemala indeed the construction of a school and nursery at the farm with fully trained, full time teachers. All the temporary and permanent staff working the farms have access to schooling for their children, with food donations used to incentivise school or nursery attendance. When a child attends school or nursery for five consecutive days they receive a week's supply of rice beans and corn for the family.

Before these incentives, it was difficult to get workers to leave their children in the care of others, with greater pressure to earn money leading to children working instead of attending school. These incentives have ensured the school and nursery classes are always full, with no children working on the farms. Accommodation is provided for permanent and temporary workers, with separate facilities for men, women and families.

This coffee is silky smooth with a jammy fruit finish. Another prime example of the quality inherent in the coffee produced by the Vides Family.

Context

This washed coffee from Guatemala's Rio Ocho region, roasted by St. Ali, comes from the Vides family. The washed process typically emphasizes clarity and brightness, though this particular lot shows a distinctive jammy fruit character alongside its silky-smooth mouthfeel. Guatemalan coffees occupy a sweet spot between crisp acidity and fuller body, and this lot exemplifies that balance. The combination of silkiness with fruit-forward notes suggests complexity worth exploring across your brew method—each preparation may highlight different facets of its profile. Reference the flavor wheel to pinpoint the specific fruit descriptors that resonate with your palate.
