From the roaster

El Fuego is a coffee we designed with dark roast fans in mind. If you're looking for a toasty, roasty, smooth and full bodied coffee - you've met your match. Whether you’re drinking it black or enjoying it with a touch of cream & sugar, El Fuego is sure to delight any dark roast drinker. In the cup, you can taste the roasty tones of chocolate, caramel, toastiness, and a rich deep body that dark roast fans love. We roast it dark but we never burn it!

El Fuego is what we call a "community coffee" meaning it's a unique blend created from different small scale producers. It is essentially a little bit of each of the best lots our farm partners produce and is made up mostly of small peaberries and beans that are of a smaller grading size. Typically these smaller size beans are valued less not because of lack of flavor but simply because of their small size. So, we use it as an opportunity to purchase more beans from the producers we already work with and give them more value than they could achieve selling it nationally in the country where the beans are grown.

Context

El Fuego: A Dark Roast, crafted by Vigilante Coffee, highlights the classic profile of Caturra beans sourced from smallholder farms in Colombia. Grown at elevations between 1600 and 1900 masl, this selection undergoes a washed process, a method often utilized to emphasize the inherent clarity and structural integrity of the bean. By applying a darker roast profile, the roaster draws out deep, resonant characteristics, resulting in a cup defined by dark chocolate, molasses, and a toasty quality.

The resulting brew is marked by a full body and a lingering finish, offering a robust experience for those who prefer a more intense cup. When evaluating such profiles, enthusiasts often consult the flavor wheel to identify the nuances that emerge from these traditional processing and roasting techniques. This coffee serves as a testament to the consistency and depth achievable through careful cultivation and precise roasting practices.
