Kokako Organic Coffee
Kokako Organic Coffee Roasters is an Auckland-based specialty coffee roastery founded in 2001, committed to organic, Fairtrade-certified coffee and environmental sustainability.
Kokako Organic Coffee Roasters operates out of a roastery in Mt Eden, Auckland, New Zealand, and identifies as a specialty coffee roaster with a founding mission to be New Zealand's first organic coffee roasters. The company was established by founders Helen and Christian in 2001, growing from a late-1990s idea into a well-established roastery. Kokako has held Fairtrade certification since 2009 and sources all of its coffee and drinking chocolate as 100% certified organic. The company uses home-compostable packaging and has published a biennial sustainability report since 2016. Beyond coffee, Kokako supplies cafes, restaurants, retailers, and workplaces, and offers commercial machine services and barista training. The roastery also sells brew equipment, reusables, pantry goods, and Thea Matcha. Kokako is named after the endangered New Zealand native bird, and the company actively supports conservation groups, including the Rotoehu Ecological Trust, working to protect the kōkako species.
