Context
Honduran coffees, particularly those from regions like Marcala, are frequently celebrated for their balanced profiles and approachable sweetness. When exploring these origins, drinkers often encounter a spectrum of flavors ranging from deep, confectionary sugars to bright, orchard-inspired acidity. Understanding how these characteristics manifest requires a foundational grasp of the flavor wheel, which helps categorize the complex sensory experiences found in a finished cup.
Bard on the Rocks, offered by Bard Coffee, highlights this classic Honduran versatility. The roaster’s tasting notes for this selection—stonefruit, caramel, dark chocolate, and fudgesicle—reflect a profile that leans into rich, dessert-like qualities. While coffees from this country can vary significantly based on processing and specific micro-climates, this particular lot emphasizes a comforting, full-bodied experience. It serves as an excellent example of how careful roasting can accentuate the inherent sugary and cocoa-forward notes often associated with high-quality beans from this Central American origin.
