This coffee comes from a collection of well organised estates based around the small town of Santo Antonio do Amparo in the south of the state of Minas Gerais.

Working as a group has enabled these estates to share their years of experience and expertise, ensuring that the best potential quality is achieved on each individual farm. As a result, their collective harvests continue to build a reputation and profile of high speciality standards from the region their families have called home for generations.

Their state-of-the-art cupping lab, which is equipped with the latest technology in colour analysis, roasting, grading and cupping, employs a full time cupper, Q grader and quality control manager and is located in Santo Antonio do Amparo. They also collectively own their own dry-mill, warehouse and exporting facilities, ensuring a high level of traceability and quality.

The gentle slopes in this region make mechanical harvesting possible, while sophisticated equipment ensures a high level of quality can be achieved; these estates are making sure Brazil is known for more than just producing quantity. Santo Antonio is made up of well known estates such as Samambaia, Cerrado, Pinhal, Vila Boa and Arco de Iris to name a few.

Common Man Coffee Roasters

Context

This peaberry lot from Common Man Coffee Roasters sources from Santo Antonio do Amparo estates in Sul de Minas Gerais, a region known for producing balanced, full-bodied coffees. The natural processing method emphasizes fruit-forward character, though this particular lot expresses itself through rich chocolate and cocoa notes—a profile rooted in the blend of Bourbon, Mundo Novo, and Caturra varietals. The roaster identifies dark chocolate, cacao, and nougat on the palate, suggesting a fuller-bodied cup with subtle sweetness. At 1150 masl, the elevation supports complexity while the natural process development adds body and depth, making this a compelling choice for those seeking Brazilian coffee with pronounced cocoa character.
