From the roaster

Members of the CENAPROC cooperative have long produced our favorite coffees from Bolivia. Over our 20+ year relationship, the organic coffees grown in the Yungas jungle of the country’s eastern mountains have consistently endured complicated logistical hurdles, making their quality all the more remarkable. This lot represents the best of these dedicated farmers, showcasing subtle cherry notes and a complex sweetness reminiscent of vanilla and hazelnut.

Context

Produced by the CENAPROC cooperative in the Yungas region of Bolivia, Nueva Llusta represents the collaborative efforts of smallholder farmers in one of the country’s most significant coffee-growing areas. This lot is brought to market by Counter Culture Coffee, a roaster known for its focus on transparency and direct relationships with producers. In the cup, this coffee presents a profile defined by cherry, vanilla, and hazelnut.

When evaluating such distinct flavor profiles, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the nuances between stone fruit acidity and nutty, dessert-like undertones. While every harvest varies based on local conditions, coffees from the Yungas region are often recognized for their unique character and the dedication of the cooperatives that manage their processing.
