From the roaster

In their quest to consistently deliver top quality, the CENAPROC cooperative tastes through all of their individual members’ lots each season. The absolute best coffees are set aside for us, and for this subscriber-exclusive offering, we’ve combined a few of our favorites that exemplify the sweet, nuanced flavors that piqued our interest when we began working with the group in 2004. These three producers–Jorge Caceres, Luis Huayhua, and Luis’ wife, Zenovia–have been consistent microlot producers for at least a decade, and we look forward to tasting their work each year. Combining their best lots together highlights the complex sweetness we love from this region, with flavors of dark chocolate, praline, and raisin.

Context

The Nueva Llusta - Microlot represents a collaborative effort from producers Jorge Caceres, Luis Huayhua, and Zenovia. Sourced and roasted by Counter Culture Coffee, this selection highlights the distinct character of their collective harvest. In the cup, the profile is defined by rich, comforting notes of dark chocolate and praline, balanced by the sweetness of raisin.

When evaluating coffees with such deep, confectionary qualities, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the nuances between sugar-browning and dried fruit categories. While every microlot offers a unique snapshot of its origin, coffees featuring these specific flavor markers often provide a structured, full-bodied experience that appeals to those who enjoy traditional, dessert-like profiles. By focusing on the work of individual producers like Caceres, Huayhua, and Zenovia, this offering provides a clear look at the specific output of their dedicated farming practices.
