Raspberry Jam, Red Berry Tea, Citrus 

This coffee was grown in Mutambu Commune of the Mumirwa region, Burundi. 173 smallholders contributed to the lot, including lead farmers Thomas Kurubone. After harvest, cherries were sold to Migoti Coffee, who processed it at their washing station in Migoti Hill. Here, cherries were sorted, then anaerobically fermented for 2 days in closed 100L tanks filled with water. Next, the coffee was dried in the sun on raised beds for 3-4 weeks.

This washed Red Bourbon from Burundi's Mumirwa region, produced by Migoti Coffee and roasted by Dark Arts Coffee, presents a distinctly bright profile centered around berry and citrus aromatics. Washed coffees from Burundi often emphasize clarity and acidity, qualities that align with the roaster's tasting notes of raspberry jam, red berry tea, and citrus—a progression that suggests both jammy sweetness and brisk, tea-like structure. Red Bourbon, a classic varietal prized for its balance, tends to express regional terroir readily, and at 1700 meters elevation, this lot sits within an altitude range conducive to nuanced fruit development. The combination of varietal character, washed processing, and origin suggests a coffee that rewards attention to brewing parameters.
