About: Monte Líbano, nestled in the scenic Dipilto Mountains of northern Nicaragua near the Honduran border, was acquired in 2017 as the Valladárez family expanded their coffee operation to focus more on specialty. It stands as a testament to their dedication to coffee excellence. The farm has a unique combination of microclimates, soil diversity, and altitude that makes it ideal for growing high-quality coffees. Many varieties are cultivated, including Caturra, Maracaturra, Pacamara, and Geisha. Under the management of Luis’s son, Olman Valladárez, the farm has flourished.
Beyond coffee, the Valladárez family’s commitment extends to community well-being, sponsoring public health campaigns and organising celebratory events. The philosophy at Monte Líbano revolves around creating a sustainable and familial atmosphere, where everyone involved, from collaborators to consumers, enjoys the fruits of their labour.

Context
This washed Caturra from Monte Líbano sits at a compelling elevation—1200–1650 masl across Dipilto in Nicaragua's Nueva Segovia region—where altitude and varietal character converge. Caturra is known for bright, focused acidity and clean fruit expression, qualities often amplified by washed processing, which strips away fruit flesh to highlight bean development. Proud Mary's sourcing from this highland producer positions the coffee in a range where origin clarity tends to shine.
The elevation and process choice suggest a coffee built for transparency: the washed method here likely emphasizes what Dipilto's terroir and the varietal's natural profile contribute, without the heavier, fermented notes typical of natural-processed coffees. This is a framework for exploring how region, altitude, and technique work together—one you can assess against the sensory markers on the flavor wheel.
