Washed
**NEW** MEXICO Ohuapan
Roasted by Sump Coffee
Traceable Veracruz coffee with bright white grape, honeysuckle, and peach sweetness.

From the roaster
This coffee comes to us from the Tlaltetela district of Veracruz, Mexico. Sourced by Red Fox Coffee Merchants, Ohuapan is a highly traceable, specialty-grade coffee. Grown in remote, high-altitude terrain, the hand-harvested cherries are carefully transported via mules and ATVs before being washed with pure spring water and fermented for 48 hours. This meticulous processing creates a bright and distinctive flavor profile highlighted by crisp white grape, honeysuckle, and clean peach tea sweetness. By partnering directly with the supply chain, this relationship-driven sourcing ensures local producers receive premium incentives and the long-term market stability needed to invest in their land.
This lot from Veracruz makes an exceptional daily driver and great first cup of the day. It’s soft, sweet, and floral, but well balanced by mild tartness. Not too bold for first thing in the morning, but not lacking nuance for a more disccerning afternoon brew, we’d recommend it for all of your daily coffee needs.

Context
Veracruz's high-altitude growing conditions often yield coffees with pronounced clarity and floral character, and this washed lot from Tlaltetela district exemplifies that potential. Washed processing typically emphasizes the bean's inherent sweetness and brightness by removing fruit during fermentation—here resulting in the roaster's notes of crisp white grape, honeysuckle, and clean peach tea sweetness. The profile suggests a delicate cup with soft, floral aromatics characteristic of coffees from this Mexican region. If these descriptors feel abstract, the flavor wheel offers a helpful visual framework for identifying similar tasting elements in your own experience. Sump Coffee has highlighted the sweetness and clarity as defining qualities of this particular lot.
