From the roaster
Eisode 11 of Blend Friends! Two roasteries share tasting notes, and blend two interesting coffees into something neither could make alone. The final recipe is then produced in a very limited batch for coffee fans following the project. Colombia Las Flores Caturra Chiroso, washed anaerobic, brings punchy fermented funk and bright acidity. A natural Honduras rounds it out with ripe, syrupy sweetness and body. Together they make a cup that's complex and a little wild, funky up front with a smooth, fruit forward finish.
OddKin are small independent roastery based in Bristol with one simple mission: make exceptional coffee for everyone and anyone.
They source high-quality speciality coffee through direct trade relationships wherever possible, working with people who care just as much about the coffee as they do. They believe incredible coffee starts with incredible producers, and that great sourcing, fair relationships and transparency should be the standard.

Context
The Blend Friends collaboration between Clifton Coffee Roasters and Oddkin highlights the innovative potential of the Caturra Chiroso varietal. Sourced from Colombia, this lot undergoes a washed anaerobic process, a technique that often pushes the boundaries of traditional cup profiles. While washed coffees are typically celebrated for their clean, vibrant clarity, the addition of anaerobic fermentation can introduce complex, punchy characteristics.
In this specific release, the interplay between the processing method and the varietal results in a profile defined by fermented funk, bright acidity, and a syrupy sweetness. For those interested in how these specific techniques influence the final cup, exploring processing methods provides essential insight into how producers manipulate fermentation to achieve such fruit-forward results. To better identify these nuanced characteristics, we recommend referencing the flavor wheel to help categorize the distinct sensory experience offered by this unique partnership.
