From the roaster

Over the past seven years Limoncillo Washed Caturra has become one of the staple comfortable coffees in the Drop Coffee catalogue. It is a reliably steady, comfortable and delicious coffee. The chocolatey and round flavour profile is a favourite of many, and Limoncillo really delivers on those notes, along with hints of roasted hazelnut and the sweetness of toffee. It will still be roasted to a light roast level, so remember to use a high temperature, between 96 - 98 degrees when you brew it.

Limoncillo is produced by the formidable, award-winning Mierisch family in Nicaragua, whose work in farming,  processing and sustainability we really look up to. Limoncillo has a nursery for their staffs' children and a lot of health support for the staff, but also its nature, with no less than seven waterfalls on the farm makes it unique.

Context

The Limoncillo, produced by the Mierisch family in Nicaragua, represents a classic expression of the Caturra varietal. Roasted by Dayglow, this lot undergoes a washed process, a method typically employed to highlight the inherent clarity and structural integrity of the bean. While washed coffees often emphasize clean acidity and refined sweetness, this specific selection leans into a comforting, dessert-like profile, featuring notes of chocolate, roasted hazelnut, and toffee.

When evaluating such profiles, enthusiasts often consult the flavor wheel to better categorize these rich, nutty, and sugary characteristics. By focusing on the traditional preparation of the Caturra varietal, the Mierisch family delivers a consistent cup that prioritizes depth and balance. This offering serves as a testament to the impact of meticulous processing on the final sensory experience, grounding the coffee in a familiar, approachable sweetness that defines its character.
