Chepkuletyo Farmers Cooperative, nestled in the fertile soils of the Kericho tea plantations, operates as part of Kapkoros Coffee Ventures Ltd. With approximately 600 members, the majority of whom are women, the cooperative processes its coffee at the Boma Washing Station, located about 80 kilometres southwest of Kericho. The coffee is carefully handpicked, sorted, and soaked overnight in tanks before being dried on raised beds or within covered, greenhouse-like structures during the rainy season. This meticulous process ensures an exceptional cup quality, a true testament to the dedication and precision of the farmers.

Context

Sourced from the Kericho region of Kenya, the Chepkuletyo lot represents the collaborative efforts of the Chepkuletyo Farmers Cooperative. This selection is prepared using the washed process, a method typically employed to highlight the inherent acidity and clean, vibrant profiles often associated with high-quality East African coffees. By removing the fruit flesh before drying, producers can emphasize the clarity of the bean’s internal characteristics.

Roasted by Five Senses, this coffee presents a distinct profile featuring notes of vine-ripened tomatoes and juicy lemon. When evaluating these specific descriptors, it can be helpful to reference a flavor wheel to better understand how these acidic and savory components interact within the cup. While washed coffees are generally celebrated for their bright, crisp acidity and refined finish, the specific terroir of Kericho provides a unique backdrop for this particular harvest, offering a nuanced experience for those exploring the diverse landscape of Kenyan coffee.
