Our Starlight Blend is one of the coffees Lightwave is built around. It combines just two specialty coffees to create a balanced, everyday cup that’s easy to enjoy whether you’re new to specialty coffee or already know exactly what you like. Expect a smooth, velvety cup with vanilla, honey and caramel-like sweetness, chocolatey body, and bright fruit.

Starlight is often the coffee where specialty coffee starts to click. Customers love how smooth, creamy, and balanced it is. It has enough brightness and complexity to make it interesting without becoming an intensely fruit-forward coffee. It’s approachable, easy to drink, and has become an everyday staple for many of our customers.

Our team loves Starlight because of how versatile it is. It works beautifully as drip coffee, espresso, and cold brew. It’s also our best-selling wholesale roast and the main coffee we use at our sister cafe, Elabrew Coffee.

The Best of Both Worlds

Starlight is intentionally simple: just two coffees, each bringing something different to the blend. The current blend combines our washed Colombia Huila with a natural-process Ethiopia Guji Shakiso.

The Colombian coffee brings a rich, chocolatey body and balance, while the Ethiopian coffee adds brightness, fruit, sweetness, and floral character. Together, they create the balance that makes Starlight distinctive without pushing too far in any one direction.

Washed + Natural Process

Part of Starlight’s character comes from combining coffees processed in two different ways. The Colombian component is washed, creating a clean and balanced foundation. The Ethiopian component is naturally processed, bringing more fruit, sweetness, and aromatic character to the blend.

That combination gives Starlight the best of both worlds: the structure and familiarity of a clean, balanced coffee with some of the brighter flavors that make specialty coffee so interesting.

Everyday Specialty Coffee

Some specialty coffees can be extremely fruit-forward, floral, or unexpected. That can be exciting, but it isn’t necessarily what everyone wants to drink every morning.

Starlight was created to be different. It gives you the flavor, sweetness, and complexity of specialty coffee while remaining approachable enough to enjoy every day. Whether someone is trying specialty coffee for the first time or has been drinking it for years, Starlight is designed to be easy to appreciate.

Made for Almost Any Brew

Starlight is one of our most versatile coffees. Our team especially enjoys it as drip coffee, espresso, and cold brew, but it also works well with pour-over, French press, and milk-based drinks such as lattes.

Its balance is what makes that possible. The coffee has enough body to stand up to milk or espresso preparation while still having the sweetness and brighter character that comes through when brewed as drip coffee or cold brew.

From DNA to Starlight

Longtime Lightwave customers may remember Starlight by its former name, the DNA Blend. It has become one of the coffees most closely associated with Lightwave and a staple for both our retail and wholesale customers.

It’s also the main roast served at Elabrew Coffee, giving us the opportunity to brew it in different ways and hear directly from customers who drink it every day.

Please note: Tasting notes vary by harvest and roast batch. The “Tasting Notes” listed above the roast and acidity scales reflect our team’s assessment of the current batch, based on our tasting and experience. Your cup may taste a little different depending on your brewing method, grind, water, and freshness.

Context

The Starlight Blend, crafted by Lightwave Coffee, represents a thoughtful marriage of origins, combining beans from Huila, Colombia, and Guji Shakiso, Ethiopia. This blend utilizes both washed and natural processing methods to achieve a complex profile. By incorporating Caturra and Castillo varietals grown between 1500 and 2200 masl, the roaster balances a structured, chocolatey body with the vibrant, bright fruit characteristics often associated with Ethiopian naturals.

In the cup, this selection highlights a spectrum of sweetness, ranging from delicate vanilla and honey notes to a deeper, caramel-like finish. While individual experiences may vary, those looking to better identify these specific nuances can consult the flavor wheel for guidance. This blend serves as an excellent example of how blending distinct processing techniques and regional profiles can create a harmonious experience that bridges the gap between traditional, comforting sweetness and more adventurous, fruit-forward acidity.
