Our Colombia Huila (pronounced “WEE-lah”) is a clean, balanced light-medium roast with notes of honey, chocolate, and clementine. It has enough natural sweetness and fruit to make the cup interesting without becoming overly bright or fruit-forward.

This is one of our most approachable single-origin coffees and a great choice for everyday drinking. It’s also one of the coffees in our best-selling blend, Starlight. If you want to explore specialty coffee but still prefer a familiar, smooth cup, Huila is an easy place to start. It’s flavorful and balanced without sharp acidity.

Our team loves this coffee for drip, pour-over, espresso, and cold brew. Its balance makes it one of the most versatile coffees we roast.

Everyday Single-Origin Coffee

Single-origin coffee doesn’t have to mean intensely fruity, floral, or unusual. Colombia Huila shows another side of specialty coffee: clean, naturally sweet, chocolatey, and easy to drink.

The honey and chocolate give the coffee a familiar foundation while the clementine adds just enough brightness to keep the cup interesting. It’s a good choice for someone new to specialty coffee and just as easy to appreciate as a daily coffee for more experienced drinkers.

The Huila Condor Project

This coffee comes through the Huila Condor Project, which brings together 96 independent women coffee producers from Pitalito, Bruselas, and Timana in Colombia’s Huila region.

The program works with producers on areas including fermentation, drying, and cupping while creating greater traceability between growers and specialty coffee buyers. The program has also paid approximately 18–20% above market rate, with 50% of payments going directly into the women producers’ accounts.

Washed Process

Colombia Huila is a washed-process coffee. After harvest, the coffee fruit is removed from the seeds before drying, helping create the clean and balanced cup associated with this lot.

That clean processing allows the natural honey, chocolate, and subtle citrus character to come through without overwhelming the coffee’s sweetness and balance.

High-Elevation Colombian Coffee

This coffee includes Caturra and Castillo varieties grown at approximately 1,500–1,900 meters above sea level in Huila, one of Colombia’s best-known specialty coffee-growing regions.

The combination of high-elevation growing conditions, careful processing, and a balanced roast gives Huila the approachable character that makes it work across so many different brewing methods.

A Key Part of Starlight

Colombia Huila is also one of the two coffees used in our Starlight Blend. Its clean, chocolatey body and balance provide the foundation of the blend, paired with a natural-process Ethiopian coffee for additional fruit and floral character.

Please note: Tasting notes vary by harvest and roast batch. The “Tasting Notes” listed above the roast and acidity scales reflect our team’s assessment of the current batch, based on our tasting and experience. Your cup may taste a little different depending on your brewing method, grind, water, and freshness.

Context

Sourced from the Colombia · Huila region, this offering from Lightwave Coffee showcases the classic profile of the Huila Condor Project. The coffee is a blend of Caturra & Castillo varietals, grown at elevations ranging from 1500 to 1900 masl. By utilizing a washed process, the producers emphasize a clean cup profile, which often allows the inherent sweetness and acidity of the bean to shine through.

In the cup, this selection presents a balanced experience featuring notes of honey, chocolate, and clementine. While washed coffees are frequently celebrated for their bright, crisp clarity, the specific combination of these varietals and the regional terroir contributes to a distinct sweetness. For those looking to better understand the nuances of these descriptors, consulting a flavor wheel can be a helpful tool for identifying the subtle interplay between the citrus-like clementine notes and the deeper, foundational chocolate and honey tones found in this Colombian harvest.
