Origin: Colombia Nariño & Ethiopia Guji Shakiso

Processing: Washed + Natural

Varietal: Various

Altitude: 1800 – 2200 m

Our Dusk Dark Roast Blend is made for coffee drinkers who want bold flavor and full body without the harsh, burnt bitterness that can come with an over-roasted coffee. It combines Colombia Nariño with our Ethiopia Guji Shakiso Sawana to create a rich, low-acidity cup with dark chocolate, toffee, and grape notes. And truly one of the best dark roast coffees you can get.

Dusk is our take on what dark roast should be: deep, rich, and satisfying while still letting the character of the coffee come through. Instead of roasting until bitterness takes over, we develop the coffee enough to bring out its body and darker flavors while keeping the cup smooth and enjoyable.

Our team especially recommends Dusk for drip, espresso, and cold brew. It also works beautifully in French press and is one of our favorites for lattes or drinks topped with cold foam.

Fun Fact: Even though this is our dark roast blend, it’s still lighter than a light roast you’d find at coffee shops like Starbucks. We’ve had customers both online and at our sister coffee shop, Elabrew, tell us they’ve never had a dark roast coffee taste so good. That’s because we start with high-quality beans selected for flavor and balance, then roast them not simply to make them darker, but to develop deeper, richer, and more intense flavors.

Dark Roast Without the Burnt Taste

Bold coffee does not have to mean bitter coffee. Dusk was created for people who enjoy the richness and body of a dark roast but still want to taste the coffee underneath the roast.

The result is a full, dark-chocolate-forward cup with low acidity and plenty of richness without the harsh or smoky character associated with extremely dark roasting.

Colombia + Ethiopia

Dusk combines two specialty coffees with different origins and processing methods. The Colombian component comes from Nariño and is washed, while the Ethiopian Guji Shakiso component is naturally processed.

Together they create the balance behind Dusk: a rich, structured foundation with enough natural sweetness and fruit character to keep the blend interesting.

Washed + Natural Process

The Colombia Nariño component is washed, contributing a clean and consistent base to the blend. The Ethiopia Guji Shakiso is naturally processed, which helps bring additional sweetness and fruit character.

That combination allows us to build the deeper dark-chocolate and toffee character we want from Dusk without completely roasting away the qualities of the coffees themselves.

Made for Espresso, Drip & Cold Brew

Dusk is especially easy to use across everyday brewing methods. Its body and low acidity make it a natural fit for drip coffee, while its richness works especially well as espresso or cold brew.

It is also one of our favorite coffees for milk-based drinks. If you make lattes, cappuccinos, or coffee with cold foam, Dusk has enough body and dark-chocolate character to stay present through the milk.

Dusk vs. Starlight

If you enjoy our Starlight Blend but want something darker, richer, and lower in acidity, Dusk is the natural next step. Starlight leans toward lighter honey, caramel, and brighter flavors, while Dusk moves toward dark chocolate and toffee with a bolder overall cup.

Please note: Tasting notes vary by harvest and roast batch. The “Tasting Notes” listed above the roast and acidity scales reflect our team’s assessment of the current batch, based on our tasting and experience. Your cup may taste a little different depending on your brewing method, grind, water, and freshness.

Context

The Dusk Dark Roast Blend, crafted by Lightwave Coffee, represents a deliberate marriage of two distinct coffee-growing powerhouses. By combining beans sourced from the high-altitude regions of Nariño, Colombia, and Guji Shakiso, Ethiopia, this blend balances regional characteristics through a dual-processing approach. The inclusion of both washed and natural-processed components allows for a complex profile; while washed coffees often emphasize structural clarity, natural-processed coffees tend to show heavier fruit notes.

This specific combination results in a cup defined by deep, resonant flavors of dark chocolate and toffee, brightened by a distinct grape sweetness. For those looking to better understand how these processing techniques influence the final cup, our processing methods explainer offers a deeper look at the mechanics behind the bean. To further explore the nuances of these tasting notes, we recommend referencing the flavor wheel to identify the specific aromatic compounds that define this dark roast experience.
