Context

Produced by Maritza Dota in the Loja region of Ecuador, this 2025 harvest features the Mejorado varietal. As a coffee variety, Mejorado is often noted for its complex profile, frequently bridging the gap between traditional Bourbon-like sweetness and the more exotic, aromatic qualities found in high-end cultivars. When evaluating such distinct profiles, referencing a flavor wheel can be a helpful tool for identifying the specific nuances of floral and citrus characteristics.

This particular lot, roasted by Sey Coffee, highlights the vibrant potential of Ecuadorian production. The cup is defined by a bright, sweet grapefruit acidity balanced by the delicate sweetness of cane sugar and the tropical, aromatic depth of lychee. While floral notes are a hallmark of many high-quality washed or honey-processed coffees, the specific expression here reflects the unique terroir of Loja and the careful cultivation practices employed by Maritza Dota.
