From the roaster

This washed process lot comes from Finca La Providencia, and although we have been buying coffee from this region for many years, it's our first year sourcing from this specific farm and producer. Operated by Victor Hugo Anzueto, the 96-hectare estate located in the San Pedro Necta district of Huehuetenango has been in the  Anzueto family for three generations. Victor Hugo grows Catuai and Caturra varieties ranging from 1300 to 1600 masl.

Context

Guatemala La Providencia, sourced by Speedwell Coffee, represents the distinct profile of the Huehuetenango region. Produced by Victor Hugo Anzueto, this lot features the Catuai varietal grown at elevations between 1300 and 1600 meters above sea level. As a washed coffee, it undergoes a meticulous processing method that typically emphasizes the inherent clarity and acidity of the bean, allowing the terroir of the Guatemalan highlands to take center stage.

While washed coffees are often celebrated for their clean, bright profiles, the specific characteristics of any single harvest are best explored by referencing a flavor wheel to identify nuanced notes. By focusing on the traditional cultivation practices of Huehuetenango, this selection highlights the dedication of producers like Anzueto in maintaining the quality standards associated with this renowned coffee-growing landscape. Whether enjoyed as a pour-over or espresso, this offering provides a clear window into the regional identity of Guatemala.
