Our First Peruvian coffee in quite some time! This beautiful Yellow Caturro from producer Felipe Estela comes from the high-elevation coffee-growing region of Cajamarca in northern Peru. Grown at 2,000–2,100 meters and washed to highlight its natural character, this is a bright and expressive coffee with a wonderfully sweet, silky profile.

In the cup, look for peach, green apple and blackberry and a lingering, syrupy finish. The combination of delicate fruit and rich sweetness makes this a particularly enjoyable coffee for those who love coffees that are vibrant, nuanced, and sweet.

Felipe Estela is a respected coffee producer and regional leader in Cutervo, where he was among the first to establish coffee production. He is also part of El Morito, a multigenerational family project that became a formal association in 2022, helping connect small producers with the infrastructure and markets needed to bring exceptional coffees like this one to the world.

We’re excited to share this limited coffee with you—and to introduce you to a producer whose vision and dedication are helping showcase the quality and potential of Peruvian coffee.

Context

Sourced from the Cajamarca region of Peru, this lot is produced by Felipe Estela El Roble and roasted by Zoka Coffee. The coffee features the Yellow Caturro varietal, grown at an elevation of 2000-2100 masl. As a washed-process coffee, it undergoes a meticulous method of removing the fruit flesh before drying, which often highlights the inherent acidity and clean profile of the bean. You can learn more about how different processing methods influence the final cup profile in our educational archives.

In the cup, this selection presents a vibrant array of fruit-forward characteristics, including peach, green apple, and blackberry. When evaluating these specific nuances, it can be helpful to reference a flavor wheel to better identify and categorize the complex sensory experience.
