Coffee Details

In recent years we have started sourcing a handful of coffees from Peru, after discovering how rich, sweet and dynamic they can be. This offering from Eli Chilcon really blew us away on the cupping table and we can't wait for you to try it!

Eli Chilcon is the owner of 3 hectares of coffee in the El Diamante village of the San Jose de Lourdes district in the mountains of Peru. He grows both yellow and red caturra and all of the land is above 1900masl. Some of Eli's family also grow coffee in the area, and the family manage the farms together. While each family member owns their own land, Eli manages the picking, processing and drying of the coffee.

El Diamante is one of the closest coffee producing areas to the city of Jaen. El Diamante is one of the few areas in Jaen to have protected forests, which are home to a variety of flora and fauna native to the region. This thriving natural environment creates a beautiful setting to grow coffee, but also contributes to the richness and stability of the soils in the area. We love how rich and sweet this cup is, finishing with a lovely citric acidity due to its high elevation.

Context

Sourced from the El Diamante region of San Jose de Lourdes, this Peru Eli Chilcon lot represents the meticulous work of producer Eli Chilcon. The coffee is composed entirely of the Caturra varietal, a plant widely recognized for its adaptability and potential for high-quality cup profiles. Roasted by Case Coffee Roasters, this selection highlights the distinct terroir of the Peruvian highlands.

When evaluating coffees from this region, enthusiasts often look for a balance between sweetness and depth. The tasting notes of fig, maple candy, and raw sugar suggest a profile defined by rich, caramelized undertones. To better understand how these specific descriptors fit into the broader spectrum of coffee characteristics, you can reference the flavor wheel. While every harvest is unique, the combination of high-elevation cultivation and careful processing often results in a refined, structured cup that showcases the potential of the Caturra variety in this specific corner of Peru.
