Juicy, tropical fruit medley with a creamy body & amazing balance.

Gathered around the drying tables of Communal Shamba in southern Tanzania was Five Senses and the entire board of the Mkulima Kwanza coop; the first time a coffee roaster had visited them. The resulting relationship has given rise to this selectively picked lot, translating as ‘Beloved’, a unique expression of the region that's generating premiums flowing down the supply chain to fund a regional health clinic and primary school. Context

Sourced from the Mkulima Kwanza cooperative in southern Tanzania, Kipenzi represents the vibrant potential of East African coffee production. This lot, brought to market by Five Senses, showcases a profile defined by citrus, creamy textures, and floral aromatics. The cup is characterized by a juicy acidity, with distinct notes of peach and tropical fruit that highlight the region's unique terroir.

When evaluating coffees with such a complex, fruit-forward character, it is helpful to consider how these specific descriptors align with broader sensory categories. Tanzanian coffees are often celebrated for their bright, wine-like acidity and layered sweetness, which can range from delicate stone fruits to more intense tropical profiles. To better understand how these individual notes interact within the broader spectrum of coffee quality, you may find it useful to reference the flavor wheel. Exploring these nuances allows for a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship involved in bringing a coffee like Kipenzi from the southern highlands to your cup.
