Coffee overview

Our last Peru release of the season comes from Efrain Carhuallocllo and his famed El Cerro Gesha plot. This was one of our most popular coffees last year, and we are happy to report another great cup profile this year. It is very dynamic, showing juicy/creamy tropical notes upfront, leading into sweet florals and a slightly earthy, tea-like finish. This cup is full of complexities to explore.

Context

The Peru Efrain Carhuallocllo, sourced by H+S Coffee Roasters, represents a meticulous approach to cultivation in the Corazon de Chirinos region. Produced by Efrain Carhuallocllo, this lot features the Gesha varietal, a plant widely celebrated in the specialty industry for its distinct floral aromatics and tea-like clarity. To highlight these delicate characteristics, the coffee underwent an extended ferment washed process. As detailed in our guide to processing methods, this technique can significantly influence the final cup profile, often enhancing acidity and complexity. In this instance, the resulting profile offers notes of orange creamsicle, honeysuckle, and rooibos. When evaluating such nuanced flavors, we recommend referencing the flavor wheel to better identify the subtle interplay between the bright citrus tones and the herbal, honeyed undertones present in this specific harvest.
