From the roaster

Easy drinking and approachable, whatever your chosen brew method, Benchmark really is the perfect choice for any coffee drinker.

Benchmark is one of our signature, seasonal offerings that is designed to be versatile and balanced. Our Benchmark is perfect for drinking as a standalone espresso or bold enough to hold up in any milk based beverage. It is also versatile enough to use on any brew method you please.

Being a seasonal offering, we update the Benchmark with fresh crop coffees as they arrive throughout the year. We always aim to keep the flavour profile and the tactile qualities as similar as possible when we are buying new lots for this seasonal blend.

The current Benchmark is a blend of:

A natural processed coffee from Natalia Brito's farm, Fazenda Jaguara in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This coffee sets a great base for the blend and shines through with some bold chocolate notes as well as some subtle toffee like sweetness.

A washed processed, regional coffee from the Cauca region of Colombia. This coffee showcases a delicious tropical-like sweetness in the blend as well as enhancing the toffee notes in Brazil with a sweet caramelized sugar flavour.

Context

The Benchmark seasonal blend from Pallet Coffee Roasters represents a thoughtful approach to balancing the distinct profiles of two of the world’s most prominent coffee-producing nations. By combining beans from Brazil and Colombia, this blend aims to create a harmonious cup defined by deep, comforting sweetness. The roaster highlights notes of chocolate, toffee, and caramelized sugar, which are often anchored by the nutty, low-acid foundations typical of Brazilian coffees, while the Colombian component contributes a bright, tropical-like sweetness.

When evaluating such blends, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the nuances between sugar-browning and fruit-forward characteristics. While blends are often designed for consistency, the interplay between these two origins allows for a complex profile that remains approachable. Whether enjoyed as a morning drip or a structured espresso, this selection showcases the roaster's commitment to crafting a balanced, dessert-like experience that highlights the classic appeal of South American coffee.
