The Story

Grown just below the high-elevation El Matazano lot, La Lagunita is situated near a beautiful mountain lagoon on the Los Planes estate. The coffee that grows here benefits from plentiful irrigation and a cool, humid climate.

Honey processing brings out a beautifully silky body that balances fruit notes like strawberry and dried orange.

Direct Trade

Sergio Ticas and his wife, Isabel, became our first Direct Trade partners nearly twenty years ago. On our first visit it was clear that their commitment to quality and sustainable practices is top priority. They have engaged in various sustainability initiatives over the last few years, like installing a new water recovery system to protect the water supply and purify water used during coffee processing before releasing it back into the ecosystem.

We are proud to have partnered with Finca Los Planes on many projects to help their community and improve the farm since 2007. Providing the surrounding community—many of whom are coffee pickers at Los Planes—with medicines for the clinic and uniforms for the football team have created a solid foundation of trust between the farm and the community. Everyone has a vested interest in a successful harvest each year.

Context

Produced by Sergio and Isabel Ticas in the Chalatenango region of El Salvador, La Lagunita Bourbon Honey represents a meticulous approach to coffee cultivation. This lot features the Bourbon varietal, a plant historically celebrated for its balanced sweetness and complex profile. By utilizing the honey process, the producers leave a portion of the fruit’s mucilage on the bean during drying, which often contributes to a syrupy body and enhanced sweetness.

Roasted by PT's Coffee Roasting, this specific selection highlights notes of vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and dried orange. These characteristics align with the classic, comforting profiles often sought by those exploring the flavor wheel. As a single-origin offering from El Salvador, this coffee serves as a clear example of how specific processing techniques and varietal selection work in tandem to define the final cup, providing a distinct experience that reflects the careful stewardship of the Ticas family.
