A single-origin, washed Christmas coffee from Kenya.

Our latest African release comes from Kenya, bringing with it the classic and distinct flavour profile everyone has got to love. This coffee is grown at 1500 – 2000 M.A.S.L in the Central highlands and undergoes a traditional Kenyan washed method. Pulping, controlled fermentation and thorough washing. As with all Kenyan coffee; the green is then sorted via screen size at the dry mills to guarantee the AB quality standard.

Kenya has strict laws around coffee grading; it is a legal requirement for all green coffee to be graded before being allowed to trade. The grading system is primarily based on Bean size, Density and Shape and is not based on cup quality. Typically, within speciality coffee you will see AA, AB and PB. Whilst AA is the biggest size, the quality is not always better; other factors such as soil type, altitude, variety and processing will play a big part in the overall cup quality.

This coffee has achieved a grading of AB and has all the character of a typical Kenyan grown in this region, in the cup we are tasting Blackcurrant, Grape and Almond.

Context

Sourced from the central highlands of Kenya, The Roast Of Christmas Past is a washed coffee from 200 Degrees Coffee. This specific lot is grown at an elevation between 1500 and 2000 meters above sea level. The washed processing method is frequently utilized in this region to highlight the inherent acidity and clean profile of the beans, often resulting in a vibrant cup.

When evaluating the profile of this coffee, which features notes of blackcurrant, grape, and almond, it can be helpful to reference a flavor wheel to better identify these distinct characteristics. While washed coffees are generally celebrated for their clarity and brightness, the specific terroir of the Kenyan highlands often contributes to the intense, fruit-forward qualities found in this selection. This roast offers a classic representation of the region's output, balancing deep fruit tones with a subtle, nutty finish.
