Description
This Hafi lot comes from Muyinga Province in northeastern Burundi, where Bourbon coffee is cultivated across remote, high elevation hillsides. The Hafi processing station brings cherry collection closer to approximately 2,000 smallholder farmers, allowing freshly harvested fruit to reach processing more quickly. Naturally processed at 1,715 metres above sea level, the coffee develops concentrated fruit sweetness and a smooth, rounded body. Roasted medium-light for filter brewing, the cup offers expressive notes of strawberry, honey and dried cherry, supported by lively acidity and a delicate floral finish.

Context
The Burundi Hafi Natural Filter Roast, sourced by 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, highlights the distinct profile of the Bourbon varietal grown in the Muyinga Province. This specific lot is processed using the natural method, a technique where the coffee cherry is dried intact around the bean. Generally, natural-processed coffees are known for their heavier body and pronounced fruit-forward characteristics, often exhibiting sweetness that can range from jammy berries to syrupy stone fruits.
In this cup, the roaster identifies notes of dried cherry, honey, and strawberry. These flavors reflect the interplay between the region’s unique terroir and the careful drying process.
