From the roaster

We absolutely love Kenya Gachatha— we've offered it for 13 years running and counting! This 100% peaberry lot is overflowing with juicy blood orange and blackberry notes, backed by a pleasing acidity and silky-smooth finish that'll have you reaching for another cup before you've finished the first.

Coffee Details

In previous years we've had the opportunity to visit the Gachatha washing station and a few of the 1,100 farmers that make up the Gachatha factory. We purchased this peaberry lot from the week 12 out-turn from the Gachatha washing station.

This coffee truly delivers all the juicy, rich, candy-like sweetness we could hope for. The acidity is rounded and the body is clean and balanced, making Gachatha a true treat for your morning cup.

Context

The Kenya Gachatha, sourced from the Gachatha washing station, represents a distinct expression of the Kenya terroir. This specific lot features the Peaberry varietal, a natural mutation where a single, rounded seed develops inside the coffee cherry instead of the typical two flat-sided beans. Because of their unique shape and density, Peaberries are often sorted separately and are frequently noted for their concentrated flavor profiles.

Roasted by Case Coffee Roasters, this selection highlights vibrant acidity and deep fruit tones, specifically blood orange and blackberry. When evaluating such complex profiles, enthusiasts often consult the flavor wheel to better categorize the nuanced citrus and dark berry characteristics inherent in high-quality East African coffees. While general processing methods in the region often emphasize bright, clean acidity, the specific attributes of this Peaberry lot offer a focused and intense experience for the palate.
