The Worka Chelbessa washing station is operated by SNAP, a vertically integrated coffee company with a network of washing stations and a dry mill in Ethiopia. Around 765 smallholder farmers deliver ripe cherries to Worka Chelbessa, where the coffee is washed using the traditional Ethiopian method to reveal its inherent complexity. Worka Chelbessa is the first of several washing stations owned by SNAP to transition to using solar power and just the second solar-powered washing station in the country. Enjoy this beautifully expressive coffee, with sweet melon flavors, crisp tangerine-like acidity, and a jasmine floral finish.

Context

Sourced from the renowned Ethiopia region, the Worka Chelbessa is a standout offering from Counter Culture Coffee. This lot is produced by SNAP and undergoes a washed process, a method typically employed to highlight the inherent clarity and brightness of the bean. While washed coffees are often celebrated for their clean, crisp profiles, this specific selection presents a nuanced cup characterized by sweet melon, a tangerine-like acidity, and delicate jasmine floral notes.

When evaluating such complex profiles, enthusiasts often consult a flavor wheel to better identify the subtle interplay between citrus-forward acidity and floral aromatics. By focusing on meticulous processing, producers in this area consistently aim to showcase the distinct terroir of the region. This coffee serves as a prime example of how careful post-harvest handling can elevate the natural characteristics of Ethiopian heirloom varieties, resulting in a refined and balanced experience in the cup.
