Orange malt, warm milk & honey.

On the occasion of our own Silver Fox retiring from Five Senses to the pastures of Mornington, we release a limited edition blend in honour of Gavan Hogan. This special cup of remembrance evokes a wintery mood reflecting his dapper grey pelt and smoldering gaze. A confident merging tastes, the Silver Fox is charming on the palette, oozing flavours of orange malt, warm milk and honey. It’s a cosy blend which invites you to the couch for a good ol’ yarn about specialty coffee, boat sheds and the secret to baking a perfect pavlova. We honour the handsome number of years of service to others from his desk at Five Senses. Our cup of Silver Fox brew is raised to you, Mr Hogan.

Context

The Silver Fox Blend, crafted by Five Senses, offers a comforting profile defined by notes of orange malt, warm milk, and honey. Blends are often designed to balance the distinct characteristics of multiple origins, aiming for a harmonious cup that emphasizes sweetness and body. While single-origin coffees frequently highlight the specific terroir of a region, a well-composed blend like this one focuses on consistency and the interplay of complementary flavors.

When evaluating the nuances of a blend, tasters often look for how these components interact on the palate. The combination of malt and dairy-like sweetness suggests a profile that may pair exceptionally well with milk, though it remains approachable as a black coffee. To better understand how these specific descriptors fit into the broader spectrum of coffee tasting, you can reference the flavor wheel to explore the categorization of malty and sweet aromatic compounds.
