This is really solid, well-balanced coffee that is super easy to brew and it's been designed specifically for espresso - a first for us!
In your brew, you can expect to find a touch of nutmeg spice and a hint of dark chocolate-like bitterness, along with a gentle, blood orange-like acidity. The overall vibe is of sticky toffee and caramel. Yum.
The roast is just a tad more developed than we usually go for (but still no oil on the beans or anything like that - yuk!) and it's just perfect for those of you that like just that little bit more intensity and boldness in the cup.
It tastes amazing in espresso-based drinks as frequenters of Cafe No.9 in Nether Edge, Sheffield will no doubt tell you. Anyone looking for an easy-drinking, easy brewing coffee - look no further. Absolutely perfect for bean to cup machines too!

Context
The No. 9 Roast, crafted by Foundry Coffee Roasters, presents a complex profile that balances deep, indulgent sweetness with sharp, citrus-toned brightness. By combining the richness of sticky toffee and caramel with the distinct warmth of nutmeg spice, this coffee offers a structured experience that leans into both savory and dessert-like qualities. The inclusion of dark chocolate-like bitterness provides a grounding foundation, while the blood orange-like acidity introduces a vibrant, refreshing lift to the cup.
When evaluating such a diverse array of characteristics, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better categorize how these specific sensations interact on the palate. Coffees that bridge the gap between heavy, confectionary notes and bright, fruit-forward acidity often require careful brewing to highlight the interplay between the spice and the citrus. This roast serves as a compelling example of how varied flavor descriptors can coalesce into a singular, nuanced profile.
