About the Coffee
This lot is produced by 1,054 smallholder farmers who deliver ripe coffee cherries to the Karogoto Factory, located in one of Kenya's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Nyeri is world-famous for producing some of the finest Kenyan coffee beans, thanks to its rich red volcanic soil, high elevations and cool climate that allow coffee cherries to mature slowly and develop exceptional sweetness and complexity.
Processing
Following harvest, cherries are carefully hand-sorted before being depulped and fermented for 24–36 hours. The coffee is then fully washed, density graded and dried slowly on raised African beds for up to 20 days. This meticulous process helps create the vibrant fruit character, sparkling acidity and clean finish that make washed Kenyan coffees so distinctive.

Context
The Karogoto comes from Nyeri County in Kenya, where washed processing is the standard method for cultivating the region's signature clarity and brightness. Quarter Horse Coffee has captured a profile centered on dark fruit and citrus—blackcurrant and grapefruit leading into juicy berry sweetness, with a lively citrus acidity. Washed coffees from this region typically emphasize clean, articulate flavor notes; this lot delivers that expected precision while layering in vanilla sweetness for balance. The combination of ripe berry character with crisp acidity makes this a versatile single-origin suitable for those seeking both complexity and drinkability.
