Ruera AB
Roasted by Round Hill Roastery
Ruera Estate is a single estate in Kiambu County that cultivates SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11 varietals.

From the roaster
Ruera Estate lies in Juja Sub County, Kiambu County, on gentle rolling hills at 1577 masl. The 190 hectare estate cultivates Kenya’s renowned SL28 and SL34 varietals, alongside the newer, disease-resistant Batian and Ruiru 11. Unlike many Kenyan coffees, which come from hundreds of smallholders and cooperative stations, Ruera is a single estate operated by Coffee Management Services (CMS). Coffee is grown, harvested and processed by a single team, allowing quality to be monitored across every stage of production. The estate employs over 300 local residents each day, with around 30% living on site.

Context
The Ruera AB is a single-estate offering from the Ruera Estate, located in the Kiambu County region of Kenya. This specific lot is comprised entirely of the SL28 varietal, a plant selection historically celebrated for its resilience and distinct cup profile. Cultivated at an elevation of 1577 masl, the coffee reflects the meticulous processing standards maintained by the estate.
This selection is brought to market by Round Hill Roastery, who have roasted the beans to highlight the inherent characteristics of the SL28 cultivar. When evaluating the nuances of such high-quality Kenyan coffees, tasters often find it helpful to reference the flavor wheel to identify specific acidity and sweetness markers. While Kenyan coffees are frequently noted for their vibrant, wine-like acidity and complex fruit profiles, the specific experience of this Ruera AB lot remains a unique expression of its precise origin and varietal composition.
