Royal Mile Decaf Coffee - Guatemala
Roasted by Royal Mile Coffee
This Brazil Mogiana decaf coffee offers a pleasing warm mouthfeel with nice sweetness and hints of pepper and chocolate.

From the roaster
We've run through a few decaf's from the Guatmela Waykan to the Nicargua El Encanto, and prior to that a spattering of Rwanda, Kenya's and even an Ethiopian. As I've learned about myself a coffee needs to meet a criteria in order to be stocked which seems to be an ever moving target. However for a decaf essentially it needs a pleasing/warm mouthfeel, nice sweetness - ideally crisp, and some hints of pepper, or chocolate/cocoa mix somewhere. I tend to dislike really light roasted decafs as they turn out bread like, but being gentle does lead to those warm tones like a hot chocolate. I also want it to be applicable for espresso purposes which leads to this light/medium combo.
It's been hard to stock it on the website as a lot of it is meant for wholesale and supplies are so limited I ended up not being able to fulfill the orders that came in. With that said I've settled in on a coffee that met all of my criteria this very nice regional Brazil Mogiana coffee, though I'm sure I'll get antsy and change it up before the year is over. Variety is the spice of life, right?

Context
The Royal Mile Decaf Coffee, sourced by Royal Mile Coffee, offers a distinct profile originating from the Brazil · Mogiana region. While decaffeinated coffees are often processed to remove caffeine while preserving the integrity of the bean, the resulting cup can vary significantly based on the specific origin and roast profile. This particular selection highlights notes of pepper, chocolate, and cocoa, providing a savory and rich experience that deviates from the brighter, fruit-forward profiles often associated with other South American origins.
When evaluating these specific characteristics, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better categorize the interplay between the spice-driven pepper notes and the deeper, foundational cocoa tones. Understanding the unique terroir of the Mogiana region—known for its consistent production and balanced cup profiles—helps contextualize why this decaf maintains such a robust and grounded character, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a full-bodied experience without the caffeine.
