From the roaster

Gelcha Kindu Amber comes from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, the anaerobic process bring out its naturally expressive character. The cup is fruity and juicy — ripe plum and blueberry up front, with a smooth chocolate finish. Rich and elegant, with a clarity that makes it easy to keep coming back to. Kindu Amber is a direct trade from our coffee-friend, former World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic and Project origin. «Amber» refers to advanced, tightly controlled processing profiles. These methods use sealed-tank fermentations and insert gas flushes to create distinct fruit-forward and clean flavor profiles. This is an exceptional coffee — the kind that finds its way to coffee competitions. Yes, it sits at a slightly higher price point, but the experience in the cup more than justifies it. We've chosen to pack it in 200g so that more people get the chance to discover just how extraordinary it is.

Context

The Ethiopia, Gelcha Kindu Amber, sourced by Supreme Roastworks, represents a distinct expression from the renowned Yirgacheffe region. This 200g lot utilizes an anaerobic fermentation technique, a method that often intensifies the structural complexity and perceived sweetness of the bean. While traditional washed coffees from this area are celebrated for their bright acidity, anaerobic processing methods can shift the profile toward deeper, more saturated fruit characteristics.

In this specific offering, the roaster highlights notes of ripe plum, blueberry, and chocolate. These descriptors align with the broader spectrum of flavors often explored using a flavor wheel to categorize the nuanced interplay between fruit-forward acidity and cocoa-toned bases. By balancing the inherent floral elegance associated with its origin against the transformative impact of controlled fermentation, this coffee offers a compelling look at how modern processing techniques can reshape the sensory experience of classic Ethiopian profiles.
