The town of Lintong Nihuta sits on the southern shore of Lake Toba in Sumatra and is home to the hundreds of small farms that produce this coffee. These farms grow Ateng, Djember, and Garundang variety of plants. The coffee seeds are processed in the characteristic Indonesia Wet-hulling method.

Water Avenue Coffee

Context

Water Avenue Coffee's Indonesia Sumatra Mutu Batak represents the wet-hulled processing tradition of Sumatra, where the Ateng varietal grows at 1,000–1,300 meters across the region's volcanic soils. This Indonesian origin delivers the roaster's characterization of oak and dark fruit—red wine and black currant notes that reflect both varietal expression and the distinctive fermentation profile typical of wet-hulled coffees from Sumatra. The combination suggests a heavier body with structured tannins, inviting comparisons to wine-forward profiles rather than the brighter fruit often associated with washed processes.
