From the roaster

Context

The Mocha Mattari – Jemen Rare Espresso, sourced by 19grams, represents a distinct profile from the historic coffee-growing regions of Yemen. This specific lot offers a complex sensory experience, characterized by notes of plum, clove, preserved fruits, hazelnut, and oak. When evaluating such nuanced profiles, enthusiasts often find it helpful to reference a flavor wheel to better categorize the interplay between the deep, spiced aromatics and the underlying nutty, woody base notes.

Yemeni coffees are traditionally celebrated for their unique processing methods and heirloom varieties, which often result in a heavy, wine-like body and intense, dried-fruit sweetness. While every harvest varies, the combination of these specific tasting notes suggests a cup that balances savory spice with rich, dark fruit characteristics. This espresso selection provides a rare opportunity to explore the traditional, complex flavor architecture that has defined the reputation of Yemeni coffee for centuries.
