Coffee Details

This cup really made a unique impression on the cupping table. We could taste the typical Guatemalan flavors like caramel and milk chocolate, as well as sweet notes of cola, blackberry pie and tropical fruits shining through. It's extremely clean and sweet, with a crisp acidity and syrupy body. This special coffee hails from the highland regions of northern Guatemala. It was carefully processed at Bella Vista Mill, run by Luis Pedro Zelaya.

Context

Sourced from the northern reaches of Guatemala, the Guatemala Nima represents the meticulous work of producer Luis Pedro Zelaya. This selection, brought to market by Case Coffee Roasters, showcases a complex profile that bridges the gap between bright, tropical acidity and deep, comforting sweetness. The cup is defined by a vibrant interplay of papaya and tropical fruits, balanced against the darker, richer tones of blackberry pie, syrupy cola, and milk chocolate.

When evaluating such a diverse range of flavors, it is helpful to consult the flavor wheel to better categorize the distinct transitions between the fruit-forward top notes and the lingering caramel finish. While coffees from this region are often celebrated for their structural integrity and clarity, the specific character of this lot highlights the unique terroir managed by Zelaya. It serves as an excellent example of how careful cultivation in northern Guatemala can yield a remarkably layered and indulgent experience.
