Elegant balance, flavours of caramel & orange blossom with a revealing aftertaste.

The La Candelilla farm has a great reputation for quality and we're delighted to offer the SL28 varietal for a third year. Five and half years ago, Ricardo planted the Kenyan varietal SL28 on their farm, not really knowing what would come of it. These trees produced their first harvest only two years ago and because the SL28 trees were so young, the yield was only four exportable bags. However three years on they have more than doubled their harvest. Once again, this coffee is Ricardo's favourite coffee from his farm. Expect elegant balance, flavours of caramel and orange blossom with a revealing aftertaste that's worth remembering.

Context

Produced by Ricardo at La Candelilla, this offering showcases the distinct profile of the SL28 varietal. Originally developed in Kenya, this plant is widely celebrated for its complex acidity and vibrant, fruit-forward characteristics. When roasted by Five Senses, the coffee highlights a delicate balance of caramel sweetness paired with the aromatic lift of orange blossom.

While individual experiences vary, coffees featuring these specific notes often invite a closer look at the flavor wheel to identify the nuances of floral and sugar-browning compounds. SL28 is frequently sought after for its ability to translate bright, citrus-like qualities into a refined cup, making this lot a compelling example of how careful cultivation and precise roasting can emphasize the inherent elegance of the bean. By focusing on these specific attributes, the producer and roaster have crafted a profile that remains both approachable and deeply expressive of its varietal roots.
