Context
Produced by Juan Peña in the Saraguro region of Ecuador, this lot showcases the unique potential of the Typica Mejorado varietal. As a natural-processed coffee, it undergoes a drying method where the cherry remains intact, a technique often associated with heightened sweetness and complex, fruit-forward profiles. H+S Coffee Roasters highlights distinct notes of Fruit Loops, rose, and orchid in this specific offering.
When evaluating such nuanced profiles, tasters often reference the flavor wheel to categorize the interplay between floral aromatics and sugary, cereal-like sweetness. While natural-processed coffees generally tend to exhibit heavier fruit characteristics and a syrupy body, the Typica Mejorado varietal is frequently noted for its ability to bridge the gap between intense fruitiness and delicate, tea-like floral clarity. This Ecuador Juan Peña selection serves as a compelling example of how careful cultivation and processing can elevate the inherent qualities of a specific plant variety.
