Duromina means “improve their lives.”

Duromina wowed us from the start with its balanced brightness. Tasting the fresh crop Ethiopian coffees at the start of the season is always a great experience (all those great fruit and floral aromas and flavors!) but sometimes, you taste a coffee that instantly triggers a sensory memory, a flavor that calls back something so distinctly that it feels like getting smacked upside the head. Our head roaster Mandy had just that experience: the prominent taste from this coffee reminded them of Sfusato lemon, the giant lemons from the Amalfi coast of Italy. It’s intensely sweet and perfumey, with very little of a lemon’s usual tartness. Drizzled with olive oil, it’s a perfect snack. But we digress here, so let’s get to the tasting notes. Delicate floral aromatics of jasmine and honeysuckle shine, with lemon, rock candy, and blood orange. The flavor opens up into a pronounced sweet lemon quality, with cantaloupe and honeydew melon, honeysuckle, clementine orange balancing out Duromina’s beautiful acidity.

Duromina is well-known and prized in the coffee industry, and the Kata Muduga Cooperative Union’s investment in the co-ops of the region makes that quality possible. New equipment and the strong leadership of Kata Muduga allow for precision during the processing of Duromina. Our partners at Red Fox Coffee Importers have been purchasing coffees in the region for over 10 years, helping to bring these beautiful coffees to us and well-deserved recognition to the cooperatives that are part of Kata Muduga.
