Tasting Notes: Deep, Rich, Smoky
Grown in the cloud forest of Monteverde, Costa Rica, this coffee thrives in cool temperatures beneath the natural canopy of shade trees. The diverse climate allows the coffee to ripen slowly, developing flavors that exhibit and represent quality. After the coffee is selectively handpicked, it is processed at a nearby wet mill and then sun-dried on patios and shaded raised beds.

Context
Produced by Montana Coffee Traders, Café Monteverde Dark highlights the distinct character of beans grown in the Monteverde region of Costa Rica. This specific offering undergoes a washed process, a method typically employed to emphasize the inherent clarity and acidity of the coffee cherry by removing the fruit pulp before drying.
In the cup, this selection is defined by a deep, rich, and smoky profile. While washed coffees are often celebrated for their clean, bright profiles, the dark roast level applied here shifts the sensory experience toward more intense, carbon-forward notes. To better understand how these specific characteristics align with broader industry standards, you can reference the flavor wheel. This coffee serves as a robust example of how traditional processing techniques can provide a stable foundation for darker roasting styles, resulting in a bold cup that prioritizes body and depth over delicate floral or fruit-forward nuances.
