Grown in the cloud forest of Monteverde, Costa Rica, this coffee thrives in cool temperatures beneath the natural canopy of shade trees. The diverse climate allows the coffee to ripen slowly, developing flavors that exhibit and represent quality. After the coffee is selectively handpicked, it is processed at a nearby wet mill and then sun-dried on patios and shaded raised beds.

Context

Sourced from the cloud forests of the Monteverde region, this offering from Montana Coffee Traders highlights the distinct character of Costa Rica · Monteverde. Coffees from this high-elevation area are often celebrated for their balanced profiles, frequently bridging the gap between bright acidity and deep, comforting sweetness. In this specific lot, the roaster identifies a profile defined by Honey Crisp Apple, Milk Chocolate, and Caramel.

When evaluating such a profile, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better categorize these nuanced sensory experiences. While general expectations for the region often lean toward clean, crisp acidity, the presence of chocolate and caramel notes suggests a well-developed roast that emphasizes body and sweetness. This selection serves as a classic example of how regional terroir and careful roasting techniques converge to create a approachable, dessert-like cup that remains grounded in the traditional flavor expectations of Central American coffee.
